Maha Upadesh of Aadishri, Part - 11

O’ confused people of the world, you have all stained your souls with the futile activities of the world. Such is the stain that the color of your soul itself has changed and the stains cannot be easily washed away, so part of your psyche have they become.

In the beginning your soul was pristine and white in color and it was 100 percent pure, honest, compassionate and helpful to others. Now it has become exactly the opposite. Honesty has been replaced by dishonesty, compassion by selfishness and instead of helping others; you only want to exploit others.

We may think that we will achieve a lot by behaving this way but the reality is that all the sorrow, anger, frustration and unfulfillment we feel is because of the changes in the quality of our soul from pristine to stained.

And no-one outside ourselves has a cure for the misery we feel.

The world run by Kaal has no solution for this agony, so I, Aadishri, descending from the lap of my father have come to ease the suffering and agony of the people of the world. Only Paraatma and I, His son, can do this, this being beyond the scope of Kaal.

I am here to take all of you, or at least those of you who want to change, back to the origin.

It is true that I am the guide who can help you change back to your original self, but the work of changing has to be done by you, yourself.  So the question arises – how can the change be affected in your hearts?

The fact is that the attributes that you have been living in are the attributes of Kaliyuga and the ones that you aspire to be are the attributes of Satyuga. So if you truly want to change listen to my suggestions and guidelines and implement them faithfully in your life.

My first suggestion is that you should start by completely ignoring your past nature and behavior. Instead you will open a new chapter in your life and make a fresh start. You will forget all the things that have happened in the past. All the anger, fear and guilt that trap you in vicious cycles of misery must be first forgotten like a bad dream.

Instead you will imagine the ideal state. You will imagine how you want to be and how you want your life to be and make a resolve to be the kind of person who is right now just in your imagination.

Say that you are a peaceful and happy soul, five times before starting your meditation and imagine yourself to be in that peaceful state throughout your meditation.

When we do this regularly, such a state starts to materialize in our life. Our beliefs start to change, so our thoughts and that will change our actions. With different actions, we will create different results and the end result will be that our lives will be transformed.

So do not think negative, weak and passive thoughts. Do not think that you are incapable or helpless. Instead think of yourself as a pious and pure soul, without ego, anger, greed, lust and fear.

Here I would like to explain what a pure soul is. A pure soul is a soul that never thinks the wrong thought. By wrong thought I mean a selfish thought. A thought that creates division between what is I and what is not I.

When you actually believe that you are a pure soul, you will actually behave like a pure soul. All your actions will arise from that belief and only happiness, peace and blessings can be the result. You will come to believe that you are divine part of the supreme divinity, having come to represent your Lord on this earth. You will come to believe that all are one and that you accept every other person the way he is, going through his own particular journey. Each person on this earth is struggling to do what they think is right from within their sense of reality. If fear is their reality, people behave fearfully. If anger is their reality, people act with vengeance in their hearts and so on and so forth. I.e. Most people are confused. So rather than condemning such people, instead we should have the attitude of forgiveness towards the people of the world. They deserve our sympathy and not our anger for being different from our expectations.

If you live this way then you will become an angel of God, who has come to spread peace in this world. Lord Kalki says that if you truly want to serve your God, instead of looking for the angels of God who have come in the past and worshipping them, you yourself have to become an angel.  When you do that and act like that towards the confused and miserable people of the world, you would have done your bit to create the kind of world that God desires. So forget the miserable person you have been in the past and instead become the ideal person of your dreams.

As you believe, so you will become. Your mind is extremely powerful and it creates the reality in the image of your self-belief. Just as the imagination of ill-health creates disease, if you imagine peace, good health and happiness, so it will appear in your life and in the life of those around you.

So my advice to all of you is to change your beliefs. Belief you represent your father-God on earth, in all his finest qualities and then go and live your life. Only good will result if you do that.

O’ human, spread the reach of your mind and open it to my advice. Only then can you make your life happy. What lies beyond the reach of your questions and that which is beyond the reach of your intelligence, all that I want to grant to you.

Till now whatever knowledge I have granted you, all the advice that I have given to you about action, karma, techniques of yoga, methods of worship etc, forget all of them and instead come  into the grace of the Lord just as an injured child rushes into the arms of his mother. What does the mother do? She soothes the child and tends to its wounds and eases the pain.

If you take the shelter of God’s infinite mercy, you will be healed protected and nurtured and you will find peace.

I want to understand from all of you about what you mean when you say that you want peace. Is it peace for yourself, your family, your village, your country or the entire world?

If it is the case that you want peace for the entire world, then I ask you a question-who among you feels anger at least once a day?I want to raise your sleeping consciousness by reminding you that if you feel anger even once a day, you are actually polluting the world consciousness by your anger. And if you do not feel anger even once a day, then you are actually contributing to a peaceful environment not only for yourself, your family and relations, but to the entire world as well. This is truly the extent of your contribution to the entire world.

You may have heard that the one who sacrifices, is truly worth respecting, so I want to ask you to sacrifice your anger. The Gita in chapter 16 verse 21 calls anger the gateway to hell. I ask you – Why do you want to sit on the fast train to hell by generating anger in your heart? The same is said in chapter 2 verse 63 of the Gita, that anger generates very coarse and negative emotions.

For me, the best contribution we can make as individuals is to reject anger, lust, greed and ego from our lives and to adopt the eternal positive values of peace, happiness, love and service to others. If the world population does this at large, then we would have rejected the values of Kaliyuga and adopted the values of Satyauga.

Thus negative qualities related to anger, irritation, expressing anger on others, finding fault, taunting others, taking out ones irritation on others etc, these things have far worse impacts than even the deadly pollution that Delhi is experiencing these days.

Just as various measures have been suggested and adapted to tackle the effects of air pollution in Delhi, similarly, I will suggest methods to stop the spread of anger and hate in society.

They are as follows:-

  1. Practice the yoga of equanimity
  2. Maintain your balance in the face of all kinds of situations.
  3. If you have to disagree with someone, then do so with gentleness and politeness.

The point is that one should deal with the various situations that one faces, with no anger in ones heart and with the aim of transferring the same peace to the opposing person as well.

Let me remind you all that anger is not your natural state. Peace;love;service to others;compassion to all, truthfulness etc are your natural benevolent state. We have lost the natural state and we have got used to unnatural states in our life.

The only way to return is to abandon the state of anger and hate. I would ask you to not only have peace in your own heart but also to avoid those people who have anger in their hearts. It is better to not associate with such people. I suggest that you should not even take food prepared by such people since that food is also contaminated and will affect your health and equanimity.

These, then, are some of the ways to avoid the path of anger, fear and hate and to take the path of peace and happiness.

Maha Upadesh of Aadishri, Part - 9

Let us look at the cause of the Happiness and sorrow that keep cycling through our lives. The real cause of Happiness and sorrow is our past Karma. What this means is that if the record of our past karma is 70% good and 30% bad, then the ratio of the happiness versus sorrow that we experience today will also be in the ratio of 70:30.  Not only that, the specific incidents we experience that create our happy and sorrowful situations-illness, pain, broken relationships, happy moments, achievements, accolades, abundances etc are also dependent on the exact things we had done earlier.

So in that sense, we are completely in the control of the cycle of karma. The fact is that we will always reap what we have sown.  In this way, the cycle of karma is highly mechanical and one may feel that it is inescapable and therefore one may feel helpless but that is not true. God has left an escape route. There is a way to escape this automatic cycle of action and karma creation. How to do so? The way is that if we renounce the fruit of our actions, even as we do our actions sincerely, then no karma accrues to us for the actions we commit.

If we live our life this way, not creating new karmas but wearing out/ consuming the karma of our past actions, we will soon reach a point where we have no more karma to undergo and we would have reached the state of Moksha or liberation. This is clearly affirmed in the Geeta chapter 18:12, which says that the person who does not renounce the fruits of his Karma-whether good or bad or mixed, such a person is destined to constantly experience the fruits of that karma. However the person who renounces the fruit, such a person achieves liberation quickly.

Now the question is-how is karma made?  The answer is that karma is made based on the actions we commit and the starting point of action is thoughts and beliefs.  Thoughts, in turn, are made based on the information that we have access to. The fact is that all our thoughts are based on our information base.  Whatever we see, read, experience etc, all these form the base of information and knowledge that make up our thoughts and opinions. And in turn, our thoughts and opinions create the basis of our actions which results creates our karmic destiny.

Thus whatever information we take in, that is what is the soil from which emerge the actions we take and the karma we create. The soil (information) creates the plant (thoughts and beliefs) and the plant bears the fruit (karma).

A concrete example will make this clearer – In the earlier times children were brought up to respect their parents and they did so. They believed that doing so would get them love and respect and happiness. This belief was based on the information available at that time. All information sources of earlier times were extolling the virtues of respecting your elders. Scriptures like Ramayana were the ideals and sons like Shravan kumar were thought of as ideal persons.  It was because of this belief that most people strived and aspired to be like Maryaada Purshottam Rama, who had renounced being king and undergone hardships of a 14 years exile just to honor the promises that his father had made.  Thus children of yesteryears looked after their parents in their old age and accrued good karma as a result but the children of today don’t care for their parents even if the parents are now suffering illnesses that are debilitating and life threatening. They are only interested in indulging in their own desires and they forget that they are what they are because of their parent’s sacrifices and labors. The result is that when their parents actually need their help in their old age, that is exactly when their children abandon them.

Why has this happened? It is because the sources of information today are giving the young of today this wrong kind of information. Television, face book, twitter and all kinds of entertainment sources are constantly teaching people of today that bitching, backbiting and doing selfish, lustful things is acceptable and fashionable. The earlier ideals of compassion, helpfulness, looking out for others etc is now out of fashion. Today it has become ok to cheat, lie, misbehave and disrespect others simply to enjoy one’s life.

But ask yourself-can negative qualities ever promote happiness, peace, bliss?

No friends-they can’t.

So my advice is that if your want to be truly happy then you will have to adapt those qualities that lead to happiness and bliss. After-all can you get mangoes if you have in reality planted only cactus plants all your life?

So I suggest to all of you that if you want to walk on the path of happiness, first empty your mind of all the wrong information that you are taking in today. Just as the bad effects of overeating can be reduced by going on water fast, similarly one should go on a social media fast. I suggest that we should stop using those sources of information that are only promoting lust, desire, anger, greed, fear and selfishness in you. Go on an information fast to purge yourself or wrong thoughts and feelings.

The modern means of communication should be used for how they were intended, which is to carry out essential, quick and cheap communications. For example Whatsapp was created to give a free method to send messages between people who were living very far from each other.  But today it has become a method of sending all kinds of time wasting uncouth jokes and videos instead of messages. What we have done is that we are misusing these technologies to entertain ourselves rather than using them for communication and we are also replacing actual real relationships with virtual ones. Not only that, we are letting our morals and standards become corrupted by the constant messages that we hear from wrong sources of information. Thus my advice is to get over the addiction of social media. That will go a long way in getting our information base right and that in turn will nurture the right thoughts and actions.

Today the very basis of man’s life is fear.  Whatever happens in life-all incidents etc-we find that they are a cause and a generator of fear rather than happiness. Even if something good happens, we fear its future loss! And out of that all pervasive fear we take all decisions related to our life.

Thus most decisions and directions that we take are taken not because of love, or curiosity or interest, but because one wants to be safe.

The question to ask is – Are our fears reasonable?  Or are we letting a negative figments of our imagination rule and ruin our life?  We must remember that however much we may try to protect ourselves, the fact is that no-one, neither you, your enemies or your competitors, are in control of time or the future. No-one can predict how the future time will unfold. The only one in control or knowledge of the future fully is God. Only he knows fully what is bound to happen.

So if someone plans to harm you, he can only try, but whether harm will come to you is not in his control. So there is no point-in fact counterproductive, to try to anticipate all the things that can go wrong in your life because that may never happen but this kind of fearful attitude is certain to generate constant fear and that fear is certain to cause you harm.  Why is that so? Because when a fearful heart takes a decision, it is invariably a wrong decision and it takes the person wrong in life…

So my advice is to take a decision based on positive reasons. Let your heart be full of positive desire to do what you are doing, to have faith and do your best. Many things are working to co-create what you are attempting to do and the final product may or may not be according to your expectations simply because many factors, not in your control or even in your knowledge, are at play. For example you may plant a seed in fertile soil, water it daily and add fertilizer etc but it could simply happen that one day the sapling is destroyed or eaten by an animal! So even if your attempts to grow the plant were sincere and you did your best efforts, yet the results were not as per your expectations. The point is that many factors are at play in creation and we just can’t control them all. But rest assured that whatever is the result, it is always perfect as per God’s divine plan.

So my advice is that- Do your best and leave the rest to God’s will.
